A sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense.
Eg. Mr. Gates is a doctor.
Four kinds of sentences in English
- Assertive Sentence:
An Assertive sentence is a sentence that makes a statement
eg.
- He is a pilot.
- Ray is not a lawyer
- Interrogative Sentence:
An Interrogative sentence is a sentence that asks a question. This sentence should end with a Question Mark (?).
eg.
- Do you know him?
- Did John come to your house yesterday?
- Imperative Sentence:
An imperative sentence expresses a command, a request or a prayer.
eg.
- Please give me a glass of water.
- Open the door.
- Give us this day our daily bread.
- Exclamatory Sentence:
An exclamatory sentence expresses a strong emotion or feeling - happiness, sorrow, confusion, love, wonder etc. This sentence should end with an Exclamation Mark (!).
eg.
- I won the competition!
- No, You can not go there!
- I don't want to go to the hospital!
- What a shame!
